Edible crafts

Here are some edible crafts I made over the weekend to go with the Artsy-Craftsy theme.

1. Pizza flags – A project for the older kids and it is so much fun. I started it out and R and baby bro KA jumped in and overall perfect holiday fun. I am sure 9-10 year olds would love it and hey it is geography class. I was/still am a little stumped in what to use for blue that finds a place in many flags – suggestions? I thought of mashed potatoes with blue food coloring and the family vetoed the idea. What are your suggestions? I am pretty sure you can top rectangular dosais also the same way and make it a fun learning experience

2. Jelly Tree – One of my mini trees this year is an edible tree. This is one craft kuttyma could help me with. I used toothpicks cut into halves to place the jelly candy onto the styroform cone tree. Kuttyma actually was able to pierce a few jelly toothpicks into the cone. It was a quick and very fun project.

3. Jello Craft – Jello is so much fun and here are jello lime. They are quite easy to make – cut lemon into half, squeeze out limw and remove all pith with a knife or spoon. Prepare yellow jello, place limw in muffin pan, pour jello and let it set overnight. Cut into wedges with a very very sharp knife. The possibilites are endless here – scoop out a strawberry and pour in pink/red jello, yellow jello onto lemons and much more.

4. Glow in the dark – This is something really cool. Have you seen bottles of “tonic water” in the beverages aisle next to all those coke and pepsi bottles in your store? I always thought it was kind of like plain soda. Turns out they have magical effects. Substitute them for water and viola they glow in the dark. You can read more about it here

8. Snowflake Chapatis – Use scissors or just tear them by hand and make pretty snowflakes.
