This is officially my first Mother’s day – well I did drop enough hints last year to make sure that R realized that a lil one in the womb actually made me a mother. But in all fairness, 2010 is my first Mother’s day. It is almost 8 months (7 months 3 weeks and 4 days but who is counting) since the mother was born. I existed but was never the mother.<\/p>\n

This is probably the hardest role ever. I never thought being a daughter, a granddaughter, a wife, a sister, an RJ, a student (this was a bit hard) but being a mother takes the cake. It means hundreds and thousands of plans going astray. It means fear and pain at every fall as your baby learns to crawl. It means pride and something mushy and intense as you smile at your baby’s milestones.<\/p>\n

I realized being a mother is worrying about every single, petty and small thing and also taking pride in everyone of those petty milestones<\/p>\n

Hats off to all mothers around the world – a day is just not enough but give yourself a break – the dishes can wait, the laundry can wait (they will not disappear as wished for though) and do something totally different.<\/p>\n
