I heard a review for this book on radio and wanted to read it. I loved the cover – it seemed girly, fun and a casual chick-lit read. I opened the book and started the first chapter and got back to check the cover – the book was not what it seemed. But then after the first chapter the book moved faster and I made the connection to the cover.<\/p>\n
The book revolves around a book reviewer, Paul and the book starts with the death of Paul’s mom. Shaken and not completely himself, Paul’s life takes a different journey. The characters in the book are so unique and so well thought of and I loved it. I did not like Paul and so the book did not talk to me as it should have.<\/p>\n
Tessa Hadley’s writings are slow at times but I liked the way how different and yet alike her characters are. It kind of makes you think about the characters after the book. For example, I loved how Paul’s young daughters characters are diametrically opposite of Pia – Paul’s daughter from his first marriage. The London train is like the train with multiple lines it can take too and the lines are meet at a junction. The book has small storylines – linked together and they meet. For some reason, such stories do not strike a cord with me. It is just not my style.<\/p>\n
