<\/p>\nOne lazy Sunday, we headed out to Reg Tanna park armed with bread for the ducks and camera. It was the perfect morning to be outdoors. We had a blast.On a whim, we decided to stop for coffee and donuts at a coffee shop before heading home. As I sat down with my chai (the Aussie version of chai is like drinking a cinnamon bun btw) I picked up a magazine to browse. I was looking at the pictures with kuttyma peeping into it.<\/p>\n
Her eyes caught this recipe (rather the picture) mainly because it showcased the berries. She is a sucker for them. She asked me what food it was and I read “Oatmeal Berry Crumble” and she was in love. One of her favorite books, The Gruffalo has a line which goes “And his favorite food is Gruffalo Crumble”<\/p>\n

I dutifully took a picture of the recipe and promised her that we would try it someday. The someday turned out to be a Saturday we were struck at home due to rain. I needed something to keep kuttyma busy and asked her to help me make the crumble.<\/p>\n
Oatmeal Berry Crumble<\/strong><\/p>\n Ingredients<\/strong><\/p>\n For the crumble:<\/strong><\/p>\n 3\/4 cup self-raising flour<\/p>\n 120 grams or so of cold butter cut into cubes<\/p>\n 1\/2 cup oats<\/p>\n 1\/4 cup silvered almonds<\/p>\n 1\/4 cup caster sugar (I learned that caster sugar is finer than regular sugar but coarser than icing sugar)<\/p>\n For the sauce<\/strong><\/p>\n 1\/2 cup caster sugar<\/p>\n 1\/4 cup water<\/p>\n 1 teaspoon vanilla<\/p>\n 1.5 cups frozen mixed berries<\/p>\n Fresh mint and berries for garnish (optional)<\/em><\/p>\n Preheat the oven to 180 C.<\/p>\n Measure the flour and add the butter cubes to it. Mix well. Add the oatmeal, sugar and almonds. Mix well. Pop it in the fridge while you prepare the sauce.<\/p>\n In a sauce pan, make a simple sauce with the sugar and water. When it gets to a boil add the berries and let it thicken.<\/p>\n To assemble, in an ovenproof dish pour the berry sauce and top it with the crumble from the fridge.<\/p>\n Bake for 25 minutes or so till the top is brownish.<\/p>\n Garnish and Indulge.<\/p>\n![\"IMG_1141\"](\"http:\/\/www.ourowncorner.com\/poohsden\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/11\/IMG_1141.jpg\")
