Renowned singer-philanthropist \u00a0Swaminathan, who died last year, has been posthumously honored with the Icon award <\/i>for his \u201coutstanding contribution to music and the society\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a huge honour – our only regret is that my father is not receiving it himself,\u201d his son, Mr. Ramnathan told the paper. \u201cI think he would be very proud of this honour but he probably wouldn\u2019t have regarded his efforts as particularly outstanding.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n
Though in his lifetime, Swaminathan, had won a slew of awards, including a few National awards, this is the first time he has been honoured with the Icon Award.<\/i><\/p>\n
A new composition by Swaminathan and his late wife Mrs.Bama (who died 5 years ago) was unearthed by his children and re-mastered for release.<\/i> <\/i>The composition Addikum Karam, which translates as The Hand that Beats, had remained unheard in his personal archives till it was discovered by his children after his death.<\/i><\/p>\n
It is being released by Beta Records as part of an album of 50 of his best tracks. \u201cPart of the sales will go to \u201cRight to fight\u201d an organization that helps victims of domestic abuse\u201d, added Mr.Ramanathan<\/i><\/p>\n
\u201cPosthumous honour indeed\u201d he snarled as he slammed the newspaper down. \u201cHow easy it is for people to place the dead on pedestals and shower them with honours. Does the world care about the truth? Ofcourse not.\u201d he muttered as he gulped down the reminder of his coffee scalding his tongue. The bitterness of the coffee adding to the bitterness rising within him.<\/p>\n
The world would love Addikum Karam<\/i>. It was one brilliant piece of work. They will never know the pain, the tears and the suffering behind the words masterfully written by his mother. Words that helped escape from reality. A reality of abuse \u2013 physical and emotional. Years of abuse, hidden behind closed doors. Years of tears that the children watched helplessly.<\/p>\n
\u201cA donation to help other victims is just not enough. It will never be enough. I will always remain the helpless son\u201d Ramanathan muttered glancing at his watch.<\/p>\n
