Physical Training – PT was a weekly affair during school days. I hated it. As a kid, I tried to get away from PT classes by hidden around the corner, under the benches (and I have been caught) and in the toilets. Later, I used to get “special” permission to spend time in the library during PT period. I don’t know why I had this aversion to PT.<\/p>\n

I remember my first PT master – Kulandaivel Sir, his stiff moustache and stern looks definitely scared me then (they probably will scare me even now). I remember Ms.Dolly Paul, who was our PT teacher during my middle school years.<\/p>\n

Sports Day and its precursor Heats were days I looked forward to. Cheering for the different “houses” – Bosco, Gabriel and Montfort. It was always fun. The huge drums came out and you could hear it reverberating as drill practices and march past runs became routine.<\/p>\n

In memory of PT, a haiku<\/p>\n

Let us have a ball<\/p>\n

Games to play and teams to form<\/p>\n

Dirty, bruised, sweaty<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

White canvas shoes on<\/p>\n

Sportsmanship spirit to grow<\/p>\n

Smack! The ball soars high<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Kick, Dribble, Throw, Hit<\/p>\n

Rules to follow and lines to form<\/p>\n

Ball so round rolls on<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Laughter, fights abound<\/p>\n

Oh scorching sun, how merciless<\/p>\n

Respite from textbooks<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

March Pasts, Drills and more<\/p>\n

Sports Day fever slowly sets in<\/p>\n

Boom! Boom! The drum goes<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We cry ourselves hoarse<\/p>\n

Cheering athletes, demanding wins<\/p>\n

\u201cPepsis\u201d to suck on<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

PT to get us fit<\/p>\n

To get us out of darkness<\/p>\n

Weekly we wait for<\/p>\n
