Highlight for May – I got done with my 2015 Goodreads Challenge. Basically it means I failed and let myself read too fast. I wanted to read few books and cherish them. It hasn’t happened in 2015 too. But I did read some great books this month.<\/p>\n

One Part Woman by Perumal Murugan<\/a><\/p>\n

This is the translated version of the Tamil book that created waves. I still have no clue why people burned copies of this book, demanded apology from the author and banned it. What poetic writing! I think this book is one I would want to read in Tamil. Highly recommended!<\/p>\n

Wonder by R.J Palacio<\/a><\/p>\n

I am quite late to the Wonder party but boy aren’t I glad I got there. Another gem! I can’t wait to read it with kuttyma. It is the kind of book that makes you cherish every moment in life and live it too. August, born with a facial deformity heads to school after being homeschooled. His life (and the lives of everyone he touches) will never be the same again.<\/p>\n

The Sleepwalker’s Guide to Dancing by Mira Jacob<\/a><\/p>\n

Ever since I saw this title at the bookstore, my hands have been itching. Maybe it is the mention of dance in the title. I was sort of disappointed when I realised dance doesn’t take centre stage in this book. It is almost like an adult coming of age book. The past and future collide as Amina tries to piece the puzzle called family together. I wasn’t totally convinced that the pieces connected perfectly at the end. Quite an interesting book<\/p>\n

The Geography of Bliss by Eric Weiner<\/a><\/p>\n

I had this book open alongside “The Happiness Project” and couldn’t help compare both. Actually I would have come across as someone desperately seeking happiness if anyone had seen my bedside table at that point of time. Weiner travels around the world seeking the happy and sad places. Figuring out himself in the process. I loved the travel and new destinations part of it. Ultimately, I decided I don’t need any more “happiness” books in my life.<\/p>\n

The High Window by Raymond Chandler<\/a><\/p>\n

I have no clue how I survived all these years without having known Chandler and his writings. What a great writer! His writing is like watching a scene. It is real, vivid and yet not cluttered with words.I have no clue how he achieves it.\u00a0The High Window, is crime mystery and detective Marlowe is crush-worthy.\u00a0I am planning to read more of his works.<\/p>\n
