One of the biggest injustices we do to ourselves and our children is to move away from picture books. Kuttyma reads “big” books. Harry Potter, Enid Blyton, books by the Stilton siblings and more. \u00a0She enjoys them a lot and slowly over time, my library haul didn’t have many picture books. I made a conscious effort to change that. Picture books are the unsung heroes of reading. They lead one into worlds undiscovered. I have been enjoying reading picture books with my 7-year old.<\/p>\n

Picture Book Recommendations<\/p><\/div>\n

Here are some picture books we have fallen in love with recently.<\/p>\n

Apples and Robins by Lucie Felix<\/h3>\n

Shapes and primary colours are always a win-win combination. “Such a creative book!” exclaimed my 7- year old. That should be a good enough recommendation.<\/p>\n

Spot the Cat by Henry Cole<\/h3>\n

This is a wordless book with amazing illustrations. I would very happily frame up the pages from this book and display them on my walls. Spot the cat escapes through an open window and takes a journey around the city.<\/p>\n

Doctor De Soto by William Steig<\/h3>\n

Does your kid have jitters going to a dentist? I admit my daughter does (she has run out off the dentist’s office with her hands covering her mouth). Dr. De Soto, is a mouse assisted by his wife who refuses to treat dangerous animals. A fox comes in with terrible pain and the kind-hearted De Sotos decide to treat him.<\/p>\n

Help! We need a Title by Herve Tullet<\/h3>\n

I would recommend any book by Tullet. They are fun and ideal for young kids (Press here, Let’s Play! and Mix it Up!). Kuttyma and I enjoyed this book a lot. The rather adorable characters are not yet ready for the reader. They need a story. They need a title and so they call the author. It is a lot of fun.<\/p>\n

A Child of Books by Oliver Jeffers<\/h3>\n

I am a big Jeffers fan. I love his books. This one definitely takes the prize. A courageous little reader introduces a little boy to the world of words. Kuttyma and I had a great time identifying the words in the illustrations and connecting them to classics. A book that should be in the hands of all book lovers irrespective of age.<\/p>\n
