We love\u00a0family\u00a0game nights<\/a>. It is a perfect way to spend the dull grey short winter days. We just got over a hard freeze the past weekend and while it is nice to be indoors cozying up under the blankets, it gets dull after a while. In times like these, I turn to games. We have a huge selection of games we enjoy and my 7-year old usually picks up one.<\/p>\n

Games are a wonderful way to bond with the family and teach children about fairness and competitive play. You can read more about why you need to have a game night here. There are so many options in the market these days and it is always a tough choice.<\/p>\n

Here are some of our favorite family games<\/p>\n

For the Active: Twister<\/h3>\n

The classic. It is easy, fun and also gets everyone moving. It can also be played solo. I have often found my daughter spinning the wheel and playing by herself. It always ends in giggles. May not work after a heavy dinner.<\/p>\n

For the Word Nerd: Word A Round<\/h3>\n

This is an absolutely fun game for kids aged 7+. It involves discovering the hidden word. Seemingly easy but quite complex. It is one of my personal favourites. After identifying the word, we like to stretch the game by making sentences using the word or trying to figure out synonyms for the word we found.<\/p>\n

Scrabble and Bananagrams are other great options.<\/p>\n

For the Young Ones: Candy Land<\/h3>\n

Another classic ideal when kids under 5 want to join in. It is rather boring for the grown-ups but it keeps the kids happy. In my experience, this game always ends in tears. Snake and Ladders is ideal for little older kids who have graduated from Candy Land<\/p>\n

For the Competitive: Spot It!<\/h3>\n

Spot It! wins over anyone who attempts the game. It is a family favorite and travels very well. It involves observation and quick reflexes. This is a game my daughter loves playing with her grandparents, honorary uncles and others. Check out the video below. You will see my family go crazy over Spot It!<\/p>\n

For the Learner: Beat the Parents!<\/h3>\n

Game time can also be educational. Some of our favorite games are learning games like Beat the Parents! It has trivia and general knowledge questions for parents and kids. Brain Quest is another favorite.<\/p>\n

For the Number Nerd: Racko<\/h3>\n

This game involves numbers and strategy. It is a great game for kids aged 7+ to think, plan and execute.<\/p>\n
