I finally made a trip to Atlanta over the MLK weekend. Most of my 3 day trip involved spending time with friends but I was determined to make a trip to the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum<\/a>. Located in Midtown Atlanta, the Pulitzer Prize winner wrote her famous “Gone with the Wind” novel at this location.<\/p>\n

Margaret Mitchell lived with her husband, John Marsh, in this house during the 1920’s. While staying\u00a0in Apartment 1 of this house, Mitchell quit her job as a journalist and wrote her famous book. Unfortunately, Gone with the Wind,\u00a0was the only published work of Mitchell’s. She passed away when she was 48 and on her request her unpublished works were burned.<\/p>\n

The museum has a three exhibits,\u00a0Margaret Mitchell: A Passion for Character<\/a>,\u00a0The Making of a Film Legend: Gone With the Wind<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and\u00a0Stars Fall on Atlanta: The Premiere of\u00a0Gone With the Wind<\/a>.\u00a0<\/em>They also offer a guided tour through Apartment 1 where Margaret lived with her husband. She called the apartment “The Dump”.<\/p>\n

I have read Gone with the Wind many years ago and visiting the house and learning how various people in her life became characters in the book is all kinds of inspiring. Yes, I do plan to re-read the book this year.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
