Mystery of the Troubled Toucan<\/h2>\n

Sofia Diaz stumbles on a mystery in Brazil and it takes her deep into the Amazon. Into a world filled with caimans\u00a0and sloths and boas, and pink dolphins, and piranhas and poison dart frogs. Poachers too.<\/p>\n

The Best Bits<\/h2>\n

I loved how the book helped my 7-year old travel without leaving home. The best part is when she added Amazon Rainforest to her list of must visit places. The author’s description of the Amazon Rainforests gets a big thumbs-up. When a book inspires a child to travel, I think the purpose is served.<\/p>\n

“She wanted to remember the swirling black water of the Rio Negro, the vibrant green of the rainforest trees, and the deep blue of the bright daytime sky.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

My 7-year old feels she is similar to Julia and loves her adventurous spirit. She also felt an urge to learn Spanish based on what she read in the book. While, the Spanish words threw her off a bit, she enjoyed it.<\/p>\n

As a parent, I really liked how much importance is given to instincts, especially that of Sophia’s. Sophia finds Hugo very creepy and is suspicious of him. Listening to her instincts does payoff.<\/p>\n

Also, I really liked how\u00a0the protagonist Sophia is portrayed as a strong, brave problem-solver. No cheesy, sparkly similes and metaphors in this book.<\/p>\n

“Plus, bears were strong and tough, and so was she. She could clench her sturdy jaw and give a fierce growl when she wanted to.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

My daughter\u00a0wants to read the other books in there series. Again another win.<\/p>\n

She would definitely would have liked to see more illustrations in the book.<\/p>\n

I would definitely\u00a0recommended the Mystery of the Troubled Toucan for kids aged 7+.<\/p>\n

Multicultural Children\u2019s Book Day<\/a> 2017 (1\/27\/17) is its fourth year and was founded by Valarie Budayr from Jump Into A Book<\/a> and Mia Wenjen from PragmaticMom<\/a>.
