BREAKFAST WITH WILDLIFE AT SINGAPORE ZOO

Breakfast with Wildlife – Singapore Zoo

Breakfast with Wildlife at Singapore Zoo

I have already have raved about how great the Singapore Zoo is. It still continues to make up daughter extremely happy. We are there so often that these days I realize how much she has grown by the way she talks about animals. The zoo offers a opportunity to breakfast with orangutans and come in close quaters with a few other animals. We love this!

This program often comes across as touristy or something only tourists do but then I find it strange. Tourist or not – it is totally worth experiencing it atleast once.

What to Expect

It is a nice way to kick start the zoo day. The breakfast opens at 9 at the Ah-Meng restaurant and pre-bookings are needed. The food is a mix of continental and local fare. It is not gourmet food by any standards but substantial and yummy. It is set up as a buffet with lots of tropical fruits and juices. As you eat you watch the orangutans swing on to their “table”. It is a pretty amazing sight – these apes are poetry in motion when they move.

The orangutans settle in for a breakfast of fruits and nuts and you get to ask questions and click thousands of pictures with them. I find them fascinating.

The tamarin monkeys are also seen. These are the cutest monkeys ever. They look like squirrels as they munch on grapes. Kuttyma finds these monkeys very fascinating. We spend quite sometime observing them.

Usually there is one reptile out which you can touch and drape around your neck for pictures. We stopped at touching them.

After a while we usually head off to explore the zoo. The heavy breakfast keeps us full till late afternoon and we just indulge in a few snacks and do not stop for lunch. Lunch time gets crazy crowded at the zoo restaurants (just fyi).

Logistics

The breakfast costs SGD 31 (at the time of the post_ for adults and is not cheap but the experience is worth it. You need to be at the zoo real early – around 8:45am if you want to eat before the apes arrive. The breakfast runs till 10:00 am. More details including the number to call for reservations are here
