Marriage and more

This must be the absolute best conversation we had with kuttyma and screams for documentation

Her: Mommy, Are you married?

Me: Yes Kanna

Her: Who is your husband? (seriously she can relate the words marriage and husband? I cannot believe it)

Me: Who do you think? R is my husband

Her: You have a ring? (I show her my ring and R shows his)

Me: (taking the time to bring in some culture) I also have a marriage thali – you know the chain in gold? I do not wear it all the time but it is also a symbol of marriage

Her: When I get married can I also have a thali?

(R and I are ROFL by now)

Me: Ofcourse kanna. But you have to grow up, be atleast 24 and find someone who loves you to marry

Her: But mommy and daddy love me. I marry you (she blushes and buries her head on my lap)

Me: Ofcourse – we love you. More than anyone else. You are our best baby. We will love you married or not. But you cannot marry us.

Her: (Clearly baffled) Why?

Me: Because I am already married to dada. You cannot marry anyone who is already married.

Her: Oh! When I get married I want princess dresses. I will change and come, you throw flowers ( we were at the Chinese wedding where the bride wore the most gorgeous outfits and walked down the aisle while we threw flowers at her)

Me: Sure kanna. We will throw a lot of flowers.

She walks away. Topic over. But her parents are yet to recover from the shock. As you notice R barely uttered a word as he was busy laughing all the time

She played her own version of “Rock, Paper and Scissors” right before we started the above conversation. Made me realize how grown-up kuttyma is. She is still a baby in many ways but extremely mature in other aspects

In other news, she knows what marsupials are. She also knows mammal mommies carry their babies in their tummy.

Her: We are all mammals mommy.

Me: Yes kanna. You were in my stomach when you were a baby.

Her: Do we have photos? Can I see them? (She is now at a stage where she understands she does not remember her baby days. She wants to constantly see pictures from the past and refresh her memory)

Me: Sure. Maybe tomorrow(and starts feeling my stomach)

Her: How did I fit in?

Me: You were tiny. Much smaller. Now you cannot go inside me (I have to say that before she attempts something. The insane part of me wonders what she would have done. She was also contemplating the going in and coming out of mommy part. I am sure I will have more questions. Really? Never a dull moment)

At night we were reading a book on animals. The book had the eating habits of different animals and introduced the word herbivore. I extended the teaching her about carnivores and omnivores. We were staring at a page discussing sheep and lamb. I started talking how sheep’s milk, wool and meat can be used.

Me: Some people eat lamb. Lamb is a baby sheep

Her: (with a frown) But then mommy sheep will miss the lamb

Me: Yes kanna. That is right and because of that some people do not eat meat. They are herbivores.

Her: Mommy sheep will miss her baby.

Me: (honestly did not expect to get into this talk so early on in the motherhood journey) That is right

Her: I do not want to eat meat then.

Me: (Rather stunned and torn between doing the right thing and being the typical mom who wants to feed her kid the best) If you feel so but that means you need to eat more veggies and fruits.

Her: I love fruits.

We moved on to other topics. Given that I have a sensitive child I estimate another 4-5 years before Poohsden turns vegetarian.
