Show Time in Houston

Last year, we sat to watch Curtain Up – annual dance concert by the Wendy Baker School in Gladstone (it was the same event Kuttyma performed). As we watched the dancers create magic in awe and sighed with happiness, kuttyma said “You never take me to many shows these days”

She meant that I don’t take her to shows very often. It is true especially after we moved to Gladstone. This small town does not have many such events. I did make an effort to take her to dance, music and theatre kid-friendly events while in Singapore.

During our recent trip to Houston during the Christmas season, I scoured the listings for various kid-friendly shows around town. I found a couple and made sure we hit them. We went to The Elf at the Theatre Under the Stars and The Nutcracker by Houston Ballet.

It was one of those moments when I miss Houston. The theatre scene is alive. The 2014 lineup is amazing. I wish I could experience it all and share it with kuttyma. As we head back to routine life in Gladstone, I will have to figure out ways to keep her eyes twinkle and glow with wonder.

In my heart I will always carry kuttyma’s little voice saying “everyone is so beautiful here mommy” as she felt the magic take over. It will remain one of the highlights of our Texas visit
