Warm Days 2011 – I scream – Part 1

What is summer without Ice cream? And interestingly kuttyma is not a big ice cream fan – she prefers munching on the plain waffle cone. But that never stops me from indulging frequently. I am documenting my ice cream adventures of 2011 here.

I am currently on a vanilla with sliced almonds mix-in phase. I refuse to try any other flavors other than vanilla. Boring right? But a good vanilla ice cream is all I want. Marble Slab, Ben and Jerry’s were two places where I have devoured the old-fashioned vanilla. But I wanted to move beyond the usual chains and discover the other ice cream shops H-town has to offer – no pictures as I have plans pulling out a camera and watch the ice cream melt through my lens.

Agha Juice

When I spotted Agha Juice advertising faloodas tucked in between clothing stores on Hillcroft and Hariwin I knew I had to try them. I tried the original falooda. It was what I expected – rose flavored with vermicilli, jello, fruits and nuts. Somehow it did not come close to my memories of falooda from India. But given that I have not had a falooda in 10+ years in India, I could be wrong. The thing about falooda is that they add kulfi instead of icecream and the texture is so different. I am going to try more soon

Amy’s

Another must-try ice cream spots in Houston – their vanilla is awesomeness. Creamy and smooth. Vanilla with strawberries, almond amaretto were the ones I tried.

Ritter’s Frozen Custard

Another one on the top 10 ice cream experiences in Houston. This place is in a weird location. It is kind of close to my work and I could make it for lunch. I convinced a few people at work that ice cream for lunch is the best option. Ahem! Is frozen custard different from ice cream? I have no clue but this one is smooth and not so creamy. But super smooth. They have a bunch of flavors and it changes every day. I struck to the old favorite – vanilla with strawberries. Smoothness!

Where should I head to next for more ice cream this summer? Any favorites I need to try?
