5 Books – December 2014

5 Books – Children’s book edition to wrap this year up. I read along with kuttyma and discovered great authors and books. Here are some of my favourites. (You can discover many more of my favourite books for kids here and here)

 Playtime – Julia Donaldson

A great collection of eleven plays for kids who love to play act. The best part is that it has plays for all ages. Kuttyma is still too young for some of the plays in the book but we have had fun acting some of the plays in the book.

Poems to Perform – A Classic Collection Chosen by the Children’s Laureate – Julia Donaldson

I unfortunately don’t read a lot of poetry. But I love this collection of poems. Ideal for kids to read and perform. They are also perfect to kindle young minds. I love them as much as kuttyma does.

I want to be Somebody New by Robert Lopshire

The dog doesn’t want to be a dog. He wants to be someone else. The elephant, the mouse and more. A great book for kids to be happy with themselves.

Up in the Tree by Margret Atwood

A simple book filled with great illustrations and writing. Kuttyma has been wanting a tree house ever since she read the book – a good sign right? I am really not sure if Atwood wrote other books for kids but this is a gem.

Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus by Mo Willems

Mo Willems has become a favourite at home. His books are beautifully illustrated and come packed with simple humour kids love. We love all the Pigeon books and also the Frog and Elephant books.

Another year of great reading wraps up. I do have reading plans and resolutions for 2015. Here is to more books and more reading
