Reading Challenges 2014 – Wrap-up

One of my biggest challenges this year was to slow down my reading and actually soak in a book. It didn’t happen. I am quite disappointed in myself. I was quite successful the early part of the year and in November but once December came, I started freaking out. I started reading day and night.

I really need to learn to slow down and pick a few good reads. That is going to be my mission in 2015. Fingers crossed.

Meanwhile, 2014 – I was a part of 3 book challenges and decided I will not be doing monthly/quarterly updates. I successfully completed all of them and I feel rather happy to see the list of books I have read. I definitely have gained a lot from the books I have read.

1) Goodreads Challenge

50 books was my target and I read 95 books. (This doesn’t include children’s books I read for kuttyma or the occasional Mills and Boon I pick up). You can take a look at all the books I read here.

2) First Reads Challenge

The idea behind this challenge was to discover new authors and I did just that. I had planned to ‘discover’ 50 new authors and I read books by 56 previously un-read authors. I fell in love with a few and I plan to read more of their works soon. You can find a complete list of books I read for this challenge here.

3) TBR Challenge

50 was my target and I met it! Hurray! I read around 52 books from my TBR pile (the pile grew exponentially in 2014). A list of the books I read for the challenge is here.

I put together a list of my top 10 reads of 2014 for TSBC – The Sunday Book Club on Twitter. Here is my list

Meanwhile, I haven’t signed up for any challenges for 2015. Honestly I am not sure how to slow down my reading. I need a challenge that encourages me to slow down. Well I will keep looking and who knows at the last minute, I might jump into one.

Happy Reading!

[…] I wanted to. I wanted to slow down my reading process and soak in a book. (More about my 2014 reads here) Unfortunately I seem to be perpetually hungry for the next book. Maybe I will be a better reader […]
